Day 20 Anchorage to Homer

Baby, the rain must fall !

The sun was streaming through a crack in the curtains.  That was good, what time it was I didn't know.  Checking the clock showed me it was 4:45 AM.  Back to sleep.

The sun was still streaming through the curtains. Time check, 6:30. Time to rise and shine.  We're moving kinda slow this morning, but after breakfast we hit the streets running. Over to the Alaska Leather Shop for a seat pad. Alaska Leather  That's my Alaskan souvenir.

Back downtown to replace a coffee cup I had picked up yesterday, also as a souvenir.  It needed replacing because, as it turns out, when dropped on concrete coffee cups explode.  So back downtown for a new cup and then to the UPS store to ship a truck load of nick nack patti wacks off to Arkansas.

Shopping completed we take off for Homer.  After going in circles for thirty minutes we really do take off for Homer.  Ah, the day's ride has begun, and so has the rain.  South we go,  with the other tourist we make a caravan crawling along.  RV's, trucks pulling boats, RV's pulling campers, and people generally being slow as sightseers do.  Unless your on a bike ,but still the going is tough, with the rain, cold, and traffic.

It seems all this traffic is due to Halibut and Salmon.  Every single person in Alaska is traveling to Homer today to catch fish.  Even toddlers have fishing poles strapped to battery operated Jeeps and making their way to the coastal fishing town of Homer.

On the bright side the scenery is enjoyable.  Mountains on one side and the Cook Inlet on the other, with occasional moose and eagles for Kathy to capture on camera, make the 200 plus miles a little more tolerable.

Finally at Homer we settle in at a hotel to warm up and rest.  It was a long ride even though the distance was not that far.  We are tired. Tomorrow will be like the instructions on a shampoo bottle, rinse and repeat.
